The Role

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Accountant to physically join our finance team in San Jose, California. In this role, you will be responsible for managing and tracking the company’s revenue recognition processes and ensuring accurate and timely revenue calculations. You will work closely with various departments, including sales, operations, and customer service, to gather data on closed deals, installations, and prepayments to ensure proper accounting treatment and compliance with relevant standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the accurate calculation and recognition of revenue from contracts, closed deals, and installations, ensuring compliance with revenue recognition standards (e.g., ASC 606).
  • Collaborate with sales, project management, operations, and customer service teams to gather the needed data to validate revenue recognition.
  • Prepare technical accounting memos for nonstandard revenue arrangements
  • Prepare month-end account reconciliation for revenue and accounts receivable
  • Prepare revenue waterfall and COGS waterfall schedules and reconcile revenue and COGS shipments
  • Review and monitor achievement against prepayments and deferred revenue balances and manage the timing of revenue recognition for long-term contracts and projects.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual revenue reports, providing detailed analysis of performance against budgeted and forecasted figures.
  • Analyze trends, identify discrepancies, and proactively resolve any revenue recognition issues or concerns.
  • Assist in external audits related to revenue recognition.
  • Support the implementation and improvement of accounting systems and tools related to revenue tracking, recognition, and reporting.
  • Recommend and assist in the development of process improvements to enhance the accuracy and efficiency of revenue-related tasks.
  • Produce error-free accounting reports and present results to management

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field
  • 4+ years of revenue recognition experience
  • Big 4 accounting firm a plus
  • Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work with various parts of the organization outside of accounting
  • Positive team player willing to assist others when needed

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in accountancy
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license
