The Boring Company was founded to solve the problem of soul-destroying traffic by creating an underground network of tunnels. Today, we are creating the technology to increase tunneling speed and decrease costs by a factor of 10 or more with the ultimate goal of making Hyperloop adoption viable and enabling rapid transit across densely populated regions.

Responsibilities

  • Source TBM components, extendable hardware and consumables, to include raw materials required to produce extendable hardware.
  • Build a network of approved and reliable equipment suppliers and maintenance contractors, creating strong working relationships to ensure cost, quality and delivery targets are met.
  • Create and oversee requests for quotation, ensuring Non-Disclosure Agreements, General Terms & Conditions, and other related contracts are negotiated and in place before business is initiated.
  • Negotiate pricing, commercial terms and issue Purchase Orders for Field Equipment and associated maintenance services. Support organizational cost management objectives by identifying and negotiating commercial cost reduction activities.
  • Validate, analyze, and make sourcing recommendations based on analyses of Supplier quotations.
  • Manage respective supplier relationships and performance, including but not limited to dispute resolution, supplier scorecards, and periodic business reviews.
  • Work with receiving, finance and suppliers to reconcile discrepancies in receiving and invoicing.
  • Plan, schedule, and monitor delivery of goods and services to meet tunneling needs as well as internal production requirements: Translate tunneling demand to a production plan and a supply plan, set MIN and MAX inventory levels and reorder to ensure inventory levels are appropriately in-stock.
  • Work with internal software development teams to define business requirements for Material Resource Planning (MRP) modules: Demand Planning, Production Planning, Supply Planning. Test and deploy MRP modules.
  • Set-up and maintain material, supplier and planning system data in the MRP.

Basic Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical / Mechanical / Industrial / Manufacturing Engineering, or 10 years of experience in a Sourcing role, preferably in an automotive, aircraft or electronics manufacturing / production / new product introduction environment
  • Understanding of contract fundamentals; Experience developing “should-cost” estimates and analyzing supplier quotes.
  • Experience in supply chain management and inventory control.
  • Experience with MRP / ERP systems.
  • Excellent negotiation, written and verbal skills; Organizational skills to manage and track transactional details; Team player and with strong interpersonal and project management skills.
  • Open-minded self-starter with the ability to adapt, improvise and problem solve; Demonstrated experience achieving and exceeding cost-reduction objectives
  • Excellent Excel and other MS Office skills required; Experience with ERP or MRP purchasing systems preferred
  • Ability to work independently on multiple tasks and projects, with various teams including construction teams, engineers, and Suppliers.

Additional Requirements

  • Position may require extended work hours and weekend work
  • Position may require use of personal vehicle to transit between work sites.
