About Sequence

Our mission is to own, transform, and operate the companies that will define the American service economy.

AI will reshape every industry. But its deepest impact won't come from better models - it will come from transforming how real businesses serve real customers. Faster decisions. Personal service at scale. Better outcomes for the people who depend on these institutions every day. We believe this is the defining opportunity of our generation.

The traditional playbook can't capture it. SaaS companies expect every business to conform to their product. Consultants scope to an engagement and leave. Neither has the access, context, or incentive to reach the root of how a business actually operates. That requires ownership.

Sequence was built to close that gap. We are a permanent holding company - a home for great businesses and the exceptional people who run them. We take meaningful stakes, embed our technology and engineering team, and work alongside management to rewire operations from the inside. Not as a vendor. Not on a timeline. As owners.

We've raised $75M - our seed round led by Conviction and 8VC, and our Series A led by Lux Capital - joined by Definition Capital, Chris Ré (Factory), and other leading institutional partners.

About the Role

Engineers at Sequence have two jobs.

First, create value. At each operating company, you will translate human knowledge work into AI compute — vastly accelerating how work gets done. You will do this by deploying agents and building LLM-powered workflows that solve real operational problems, not demos but production systems used daily by the people running the business.

Second, make the FDE motion scale. Every transformation you do should feed back into Sequence’s core AI platform — so that services businesses start to feel like product businesses. The companies we acquire run on manual, human-intensive processes. By building reusable systems that compound across the portfolio, you make each subsequent transformation faster than the last.

As Sequence grows, the best engineers will define and lead entire verticals, working closely with operators and investors to shape how whole industries will run on Sequence’s platform.

Requirements

  • Relentlessly product-oriented. Obsesses over details to get the user experience right.

  • Raw horsepower and tenacity. Will run through walls to deliver results.

  • Proven ability to build from 0 to 1

  • Independence and drive comparable to a founder

  • Strong communicator across engineers, operators, and executives

  • Willing to travel to operating companies

Our Values

  • Ownership. You are an owner of Sequence — literally. Think like one. Take pride in your work. Treat our spaces, our money, and our reputation like they're yours, because they are. Do the extra work no one asked for. The small things compound.

  • Integrity. Do the right thing, especially when no one is watching. Deal honestly with businesses, partners, employees, and the communities our businesses serve. Reputation compounds faster than revenue and is infinitely harder to rebuild. We would rather lose a deal than lose trust.

  • Compassion. We transform businesses, but businesses are people. Treat the employees at our operating companies and the communities they serve – with genuine care. Build technology that makes people’s jobs better, not disposable. Every operating company we partner with represents generations of effort, relationships, and community impact. Lead with empathy, listen before prescribing, and never forget that the point of transformation is to serve customers better.

  • Relentless Effort. Extraordinary outcomes require extraordinary effort. We are a small team going after massive opportunities. If we are not outworking everyone else, we lose. Complacency is the only real threat. Urgency is not a phase, it’s how we operate. Execute quickly, iterate constantly, and never assume we have the luxury of time.

  • Intellectual Honesty. The best idea wins, regardless of who says it. Question assumptions, debate openly, and push back regardless of hierarchy. No egos, no politics. When we’re wrong, we say so and move forward. Concealing mistakes is the only unacceptable failure. Trust is built through honesty, not perfection.

  • Long-Term Thinking. We are a permanent holding company, not a fund with an exit clock. Every decision is measured against decades, not quarters. Invest in knowledge, systems, and capabilities that compound. The businesses we own will outlast any individual initiative, any single quarter, and any one of us. Act accordingly.

  • We, Not I. Share credit generously. Take responsibility collectively. No one here succeeds alone. The kind of trust that makes small teams extraordinary comes from putting the team first, every time. Ego is the enemy of the kind of trust that compounds. We win together or we don’t win at all.
