Job Overview
We are seeking a Harness Engineer to join our dynamic Electrical Engineering Team. The successful candidate will serve as a harness design engineer with hands-on technician abilities to support quick-turn builds and prototyping of electrical harnesses for our autonomous surface vessels (ASVs) and related technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop electrical harnesses for ASV systems, including power distribution, signal routing, and cable management, to meet functional, performance, and reliability requirements
  • Utilize CAD software and design tools to create detailed harness schematics, layouts, and assembly drawings, incorporating design considerations for wire gauges, connectors, shielding, and environmental factors
  • Research, select and procureappropriate connectors, back-shells, contacts, wire, shielding, and cable construction for the product to meet appropriate environmental requirements
  • Define harness requirements, develop specifications, and ensure compatibility with overall ASV designs
  • Fabricate and assemble electrical harnesses using hands-on technician skills, including wire stripping, crimping, soldering, and harness bundling techniques, to support quick-turn builds and prototyping activities
  • Perform functional testing and validation of electrical harnesses, including continuity checks, insulation resistance tests, and signal integrity tests, to verify compliance with design specifications and performance objectives
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to harness design, fabrication, and installation during development, testing, and field deployment
  • Participate in design reviews and provide input to identify issues and drive design choices
  • Document and maintainaccurate records of harness designs, specifications, fabrication processes, and test results, ensuring traceability and compliance with quality standards and regulatory requirements

Qualifications

  • Proficiency in Rapid Harness and PTC Creo Schematic, or similar tools for harness design and documentation
  • Proven work experience as a Harness Engineer or similar role, with expertise in electrical harness design and fabrication
  • Strong knowledge of electrical wiring and cable management principles, including understanding of wire gauges, insulation materials, shielding techniques, and environmental considerations
  • Familiarity with common electrical bus interfaces (CAN, Ethernet, RS422, RS232)
  • Hands-on technician abilities with experience in wire harness assembly, including proficiency in wire stripping, crimping, soldering, and harness bundling techniques
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex harness design and integration issues
  • A bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field is preferred; relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of a degree
