Responsibilities

  • Conduct structural analysis and simulation to ensure the integrity and performance of our autonomous surface vessels (ASVs) in various operating conditions.
  • Perform thermal analysis and modeling to optimize the thermal management systems of ASVs and their subsystems.
  • Collaborate with design, engineering, and test teams to develop innovative solutions for structural and thermal challenges, incorporating advanced materials and technologies.
  • Utilize finite element analysis (FEA) and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) tools to predict and assess the behavior of ASV components and systems.
  • Perform drop test, transient flow, and classical heat transfer analyses.
  • Create designs of experiment to gather technical requirements and control conditions.
  • Evaluate and validate designs through testing and prototyping, providing recommendations for improvements based on analysis results.
  • Generate technical reports and documentation to communicate analysis findings and recommendations to internal teams and stakeholders.
  • Participate in cross-functional teams to integrate structural and thermal considerations into the overall design and development process.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and advancements in structural and thermal analysis techniques, incorporating best practices into our engineering processes.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical/Aerospace/Computer, Engineering or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • Proven experience in FMEA, structural and thermal analysis, preferably in the aerospace, maritime, or defense industries.
  • Proficiency in finite element analysis (FEA) software such as SOLIDWORKS Flow, SOLIDWORKS Sim, StarCCM, ANSYS, Abaqus, or COMSOL.
  • Strong understanding of thermal management principles and experience with thermal analysis software.
  • strong understanding of frequency nodes, buckling, and dynamic load cases.
  • Familiarity with relevant industry standards and regulations, including ASME, ISO, MIL-STD, and NAVSEA.
  • Proficient in resource management to optimize solve times with respect to priority and available nodes.
  • Experience with advanced materials and composites is desirable.
  • Experience with metallurgical analysis a plus.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
