Company Overview:

Join our innovative insurtech company, where we are transforming the insurance industry through technology. We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Controller to manage our financial operations and ensure the smooth running of our accounting functions.

Responsibilities: your responsibilities will include AP/AR, Payroll, HR, Tax, Bookkeeping, and FP&A, all in the context of insurance operations.

Insurance Payment Flows:

  • Understand and manage insurance payment flows, including calculating commissions payable to agents and reinsurance partners.
  • Ensure accurate and timely processing of payments related to insurance operations.

Accounts Payable and Receivable:

  • Oversee and manage the accounts payable and accounts receivable functions.
  • Ensure timely and accurate processing of invoices and payments.
  • Manage collections and maintain strong relationships with clients and vendors.

Payroll Management:

  • Administer payroll processes through Gusto, ensuring timely and accurate payroll for all employees.
  • Handle payroll-related inquiries and resolve any issues.

Human Resources:

  • Assist in HR functions, including onboarding, employee records management, and compliance with labor laws.
  • Support HR in benefits administration and other employee-related matters.

Tax Management:

  • Prepare and file tax returns, ensuring compliance with all tax regulations.
  • Manage tax planning and reporting to minimize tax liabilities.

Bookkeeping:

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records.
  • Perform regular reconciliations of accounts to ensure data integrity.

Banking:

  • Manage banking relationships and oversee all banking transactions.
  • Ensure efficient cash management and forecasting.

Financial Reporting:

  • Prepare and present financial reports to senior management and stakeholders.
  • Analyze financial data to provide insights and recommendations for business decisions.

Bordereaux Management:

  • Manage and process bordereaux reports, ensuring accurate and timely submission to relevant parties.
  • Work with underwriting and claims teams to ensure bordereaux data accuracy.

Audits:

  • Coordinate and manage internal and external audits.
  • Ensure compliance with audit requirements and implement any recommended improvements.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience in a similar role within the insurance industry is highly preferred.
  • Familiarity with insurance payment flows, including calculating commissions and reinsurance payments.
  • SQL skills are also a huge plus.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • CPA or equivalent certification preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, and tax regulations.
  • Proficiency in using Gusto for payroll management.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Slack.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
