Overland AI builds intelligent uncrewed ground systems for defense and national security. Our autonomy stack, OverDrive, is defining the state-of-the-art for perception, planning, and control of uncrewed vehicles, enabling them to traverse and operate in any terrain, regardless of roads, in any condition. OverDrive was purpose-built for the warfighter. Through our work with DARPA and the U.S. Army, we are developing the intelligent capabilities necessary to power modern ground operations, now and for decades to come.

In a little over a year, the company has been selected for or awarded eight-figures of OTAs and other contracts across multiple services and DoD customers. We have raised over $10M in funding, led by a top multi-billion dollar AUM defense tech investor.

We are looking for experts in robotics to join our team to increase the reliability and aggressiveness of off-road autonomous vehicles.

In this role, you will:

• Design and implement high-performance algorithms for controlling off-road autonomous vehicles.
• Define, execute, and analyze full-system field tests to validate the performance and real-world applicability of your solutions.
• Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams to improve the reliability, performance, and scalability of the entire autonomous system.

Qualifications

• Strong technical background: MS or PhD in Robotics or a related field with 3+ years of industry experience in software development.
• Grit: Thrive in a small-team environment, taking ownership of challenges and working collaboratively across disciplines to deliver solutions.
• Programming Skills: Strong knowledge of C++ and proficiency in Python. Previous experience developing software for safety-critical systems is strongly preferred.
• Domain Knowledge: Expertise in control methodologies such as PID, gain-scheduling, optimal control, dynamics modeling, and system identification. Previous experience designing control systems for wheeled and tracked vehicles is strongly preferred.
• Field Test Forward: You enjoy getting your hands dirty and going off the beaten path to see the results of what you are working on.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a DOD Security Clearance.
• Ability to relocate to Seattle, WA.
