Hi, we're Oscar. We're hiring a Director, Northeast Region Senior Counsel to join our Legal team.

About the role

An important member of the Legal team responsible for counseling national and regional business teams on statutory/regulatory obligations, advising on provider relationship and contracting strategy, and providing expertise to further Oscar’s success in the NE region. You will work with Oscar’s Market P&L, Product, Network, and Oscar’s leadership teams. This role may have one or more direct reports and include the development of talent as part of the portfolio of responsibilities.

You will report to the Associate General Counsel .

If you live within commutable distance to our New York City office (in Hudson Square), our Tempe office (off the 101 at University Dr), or our Los Angeles office (in Marina Del Rey), you will be expected to come into the office at least two days each week. Pay Transparency:

The base pay for this role in the states of California, Connecticut, New Jersey, New York, and Washington is: $192,000 - 252,000 per year. The base pay for this role in all other locations is: $172,200 - 226,800 per yearYou are also eligible for employee benefits, participation in Oscar's unlimited vacation program, company equity grants and annual performance bonuses.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze and distill complex legal issues into easily understandable content so Oscar can move corporate objectives forward in the NE region.
  • Be the national subject matter expert for one or more legal areas critical to the business enterprise.
  • Be the subject matter expert on regulatory and industry developments, including proactive identification and assessment of regulatory developments and related risks/opportunities
  • Provide daily legal advice related to Oscar’s Individual and Small Group lines of business, including broker/agent administration, corporate licensure, and state exchange and 1332 waiver program obligations
  • Serve as legal advisor on matters before state and federal regulatory bodies, including product , rate and network filings, service area expansion, and financial matters.
  • Provide subject matter expertise to further the development, implementation and continuous improvement of company and legal team processes and procedures
  • Compliance with all applicable laws and regulations
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • J.D. from an ABA accredited law school
  • Law license in good standing and the ability to register as In-House Counsel in NY State (NY bar admission is not required)
  • 10+ years of relevant experience at a top tier law firm, in-house counsel, insurance regulatory agency and/or legislative committee

Bonus Points

  • Experience in regulatory advocacy
  • Experience analyzing state insurance codes and regulations and federal laws pertaining to individual and small group health insurance

Pay Transparency: Final offer amounts, within the base pay set forth above, are determined by factors including your relevant skills, education, and experience.
