As an Epic Architect at Hummingbird, you'll play a crucial role in improving healthcare by enhancing patient access. You’ll manage the client relationship and lifecycle on their journey to Operate. You'll lead projects and engagements, overseeing cross-functional workstreams and ensuring successful implementation from planning to execution. Working closely with clients, you'll assess their workflows, develop comprehensive recommendations, and supervise project plans. Additionally, you'll mentor consulting teams, support playbook development, and champion innovation within the organization. Your expertise in Epic systems and healthcare operations will enable you to lead project scoping activities, define requirements, and prioritize initiatives to ensure strategic alignment and successful project outcomes.

Responsibilities

Assessments

  • Lead the evaluation of client processes and performance against Hummingbird's patient access maturity model.

  • Lead strategic discussions and sessions with key stakeholders to gather insights, identify root causes of inefficiencies, and drive actionable outcomes.

  • Lead the creation of client-specific maturity assessments and roadmaps for Improve projects.

  • Provide guidance and expertise to develop actionable insights from assessments.

  • Present clear, data-supported findings and recommendations to support benchmark engagements, transferring knowledge to others.

Roadmaps and Project Scoping

  • Lead the development of comprehensive roadmaps for enhancing functionality, optimizing workflows, and driving process efficiencies, ensuring alignment with business needs, regulatory requirements, and best practices.

  • Lead collaborative sessions with stakeholders to define project scope, objectives, and deliverables, ensuring alignment with customer needs and organizational goals.

  • Lead scoping activities for Improve project initiatives, defining requirements and prioritizing tasks.

  • Apply expertise to estimate efforts and forecast ROI, guiding project planning and execution effectively.

  • Estimate level of effort for project activities, breaking down tasks into manageable components and providing realistic timelines to drive successful project outcomes.

  • Assess risks and potential obstacles, proactively identifying mitigation strategies to ensure project success.

Project Management

  • Lead complex projects and engagements, overseeing cross-functional workstreams and ensuring seamless execution from planning to implementation.

  • Supervise project plans, ensuring alignment with client objectives and Hummingbird's standards.

  • Coordinate project activities, including tasks, timelines, and deliverables, to achieve desired outcomes.

  • Engage with stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle to manage communication and change management activities effectively.

  • Manage consulting teams and client relationships through Benchmark, Improve, and Migration-to-Operate stages.

Project Delivery

  • Lead project delivery efforts, ensuring successful implementation of scoped Benchmark and Improve projects and SOW deliverables.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to address project challenges, leveraging expertise to drive innovative solutions and deliver successful outcomes.

  • Direct team members on Epic system configuration, workflow design, and other application analysis work when it aligns with areas of expertise and the needs of the project.

Service and Business Development

  • Support the Service Development team in creating repeatable service/product playbooks, documenting best practices and standard procedures, and ensuring accuracy and completeness of content.

  • Contribute to continuous improvement efforts by providing feedback and suggestions for playbook enhancements.

  • Participate in training and onboarding activities to facilitate the use of playbooks.

  • Participate in project scoping and the development of proposals, pitch decks, and presentations in support of growth initiatives.

  • Build and maintain relationships with clients, partners, and stakeholders to generate leads and explore service expansion opportunities.

Team Leadership (Only if Serving in a Team Leader Capacity)

  • Provide guidance and mentorship to a small team of individual contributors, offering regular feedback on performance, strengths, and areas for improvement.

  • Conduct regular 1-1 meetings with team members, offering guidance and support to help them overcome challenges and achieve their objectives.

  • Collaborate with department leadership to set performance objectives and development plans for team members and conduct performance reviews.

  • Lead by example in demonstrating high performance standards and expectations.

General

  • Provide mentorship and guidance to less experienced team members, assisting in their professional development and contributing to a culture of continuous learning and improvement.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure successful implementation of recommended solutions.

  • Stay current with Epic certifications and application knowledge.

  • Comply with all HIPAA policies, procedures, and training requirements.

Required & Desired Skills

Employment Eligibility: Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.

FLSA Status: Exempt

Compensation: Starting at $152,000, based on experience.

Benefits Eligible: Yes.

Travel: 25%-35% for client visits, training, and company events.

Working Hours: Alignment with client work hours within the US.

Work Location: This position is remote. You must work from a location within the United States with consistent internet service.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Current Epic certification(s).

  • 10+ years of experience in analyzing, designing, building, testing, and maintaining Epic applications, ideally across multiple health systems.

  • Skilled in conducting thorough assessments of processes and workflows.

  • Demonstrated ability to develop comprehensive roadmaps that align with organizational objectives and customer needs.

  • Expertise in defining project scope, objectives, and deliverables.

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey complex concepts to diverse stakeholders.

  • Comfortable working without supervision and with considerable latitude for determining objectives and approaches.

  • Proven track record of successful project management and delivery.

  • Experience with project management methodologies and tools.

  • Experience mentoring less experienced team members.

  • Able to prioritize work assignments, meet deadlines, and manage projects of increasing scope and complexity.

  • Deep knowledge of the healthcare workflows related to Epic applications.

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Certification in additional Epic applications

  • Experience with project management methodologies and tools.

  • Experience serving as a subject matter expert in support of organizational training initiatives.

  • Able to lead productive discussions and contribute valuable insights during collaborative sessions on complex, integrated workflows.
