Gatsby Labs is a small team spun out of 8VC in early 2020. The team aims to win over the vast and crucial network of executive admins and assistants by building exceptional products. Their incubation and continued engagement with 8VC provides them with the best possible ingredients for success at the mission. The board includes Joe Lonsdale, repeat founder who built companies like Palantir, Addepar, and many others.

Gatsby Labs is looking for a Full Stack Engineer with a strong technical background to join our team. The Engineer will play a variety of roles, primarily focused on bringing ideas to life quickly and robustly. The Engineer must raise the technical proficiency of the team. The Engineer must thrive in an unstructured environment, and be able to function autonomously when necessary.

The ideal candidate will have many of the below:

  • Degree in a technical field (CS, EE, Math, or similar)
  • Thorough understanding of the technologies in their current stack
  • Often the expert on their team, or the desire to be
  • Ability to help others become experts
  • Intellectual curiosity in business, investing, technology, and design
  • Passion for building teams and winning together
  • Entrepreneurial mindset
  • Inclination to solve underlying or hidden problems
  • Desire to become a master in their craft, impatience with apathy

Experience with the following technologies would best suit a candidate for maximum success:

  • Full stack, preference for web technologies
  • Node, React, GraphQL, Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, Mongo, AWS, Native mobile languages a bonus
  • Experience working with 3rd party API such as Plaid, Salesforce, Affinity, GCP, Zapier at a production level
  • Experience with devising quality metrics and reporting them to stakeholders
  • Familiarity with CI / CD

  • Desire to push oneself into harder, more complex coursework versus a focus on GPA or checking boxes, AND/OR baseline academic excellence while excelling at other extracurricular passions (eg athletics, entrepreneurship, significant hours dedicated to work, research, the arts, etc)
  • References AND/OR demonstrated experience that show an ability to build relationships with other top talent, nurtures these relationships, navigate the complexity of professional-personal relationships, and the ability to motivate these relationships towards greater objectives/missions
