As a Machine Shop Technician, you will play an important role in Freeform’s post-processing operations across our metal 3D printing factory. You will have an opportunity to learn and use a variety of machines and tools including wire EDMs, bandsaws, grinders, precision drills, lathes and mills to post process additive parts as well as help fabricate hardware for our factory systems. The right candidate for this role will be team-oriented and have a positive attitude with a “no job too big or small” mentality. 3D printing experience is not required to be successful here - rather we look for smart, motivated, collaborative individuals who love solving hard problems and creating amazing technology!
Responsibilities:
- Support post-print operations such as vacuuming powder, removing finished parts from the system, deburring and cleaning parts, and resurfacing and loading fresh build plates
- Use a variety of manufacturing tools including lathes, mills, bandsaws, grinders, precision drills, and wire EDMs
- Work with custom additive manufacturing machinery, handle metal powders, process metal 3D printed parts
- Perform planned maintenance and unplanned repairs on equipment including air compressors, water chillers, inert gas systems and general machine/fabrication shop equipment
- Read and utilize schematics (mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic) to troubleshoot systems down to the component level
- Organize and improve shop operations; own process improvements from cradle to grave and build a first-class R&D shop
Basic Qualifications:
- 1+ years of professional experience in a manufacturing or engineering environment OR completed formal technical training such as NTMA or similar
Nice to Have:
- Experience with manual machining, welding, cutting, fitting and/or bending of stainless steels, aluminums and high-strength nickel alloys
- Experience with post-processing metal 3D printed parts
- Formal hardware-centric technical training/certification (A&P license, NTMA license)
- Ability to utilize power tools, hand tools, cranes, forklifts and other heavy equipment
- Experience interpreting schematics and/or blueprints
- Use of precision measuring instruments
- Experience setting up and maintaining facility systems with a focus on air, water and cryogenic inert gas systems
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 30lbs unassisted
- Ability to climb ladders and be on your feet for extended periods of time
- Must be available and willing to work overtime when needed

- Compensation
- As a growing company, the salary range is intentionally wide as we determine the most appropriate package for each individual taking into consideration years of experience, educational background, and unique skills and abilities as demonstrated throughout the interview process. Our intent is to offer a salary that is commensurate for the company’s current stage of development and allows the employee to grow and develop within a role.
- In addition to the significant stock option package, the estimated pay range for this role is $25-$35/hour, inclusive of all levels/seniority within this discipline.
