As an editorial intern, you will report to the senior editor, who is based in Flexport’s headquarters in San Francisco. You will also work with other economists and interns on the Flexport Research team as and when the need arises. The role will be focused primarily on our public-facing research, such as the Weekly Economic Report, weekly Commentary pieces and our monthly proprietary data releases, although there may be instances when you are asked to contribute to work for an internal audience.
Specific duties include:
- Providing research assistance to the chief economist and senior editor
- Editing public-facing research
- Formatting reports for publication
- Pitching ideas for Commentary pieces
- Data manipulation and presentation
The position can be remote as long as the candidate is located within the US, with a preference for in-person hybrid within the San Francisco, CA office. This is a three month intern full-time position.
Background and skills
The ideal candidate will be a staff writer or editor on their college newspaper and have taken basic economic courses, with intermediate levels preferred. We are willing to consider candidates with different backgrounds, however.
In addition, we are looking for proficiency in:
- MS Word and Docs
- Excel and Sheets (crucially, an ability to make charts and tables)
- PPT and Slides
