This is a unique opportunity for a highly motivated and self-driven technical leader to join a fast-moving, very high impact start-up that is beginning to disrupt the world of DNA synthesis. You will become the nexus of the Commercial Software team overseeing and managing technical programs and projects, ensuring they align with business goals, are executed efficiently, and meet timeline, resource, and quality standards. In addition to working on cutting edge technology, the ideal candidate will support Elegen in establishing a strong culture of mutual respect, integrity, and collaboration while working alongside some of Silicon Valley’s best scientists and engineers. Essential Responsibilities:

Technical Expertise:

    • Define and implement scalable internally and externally facing software features that utilize the existing tech stack to seamlessly connect Elegen’s e-commerce website, bioinformatics pipelines, LIMS/LES, ERP, and Business Intelligence systems.
    • Spearhead the effort to prioritize Commercial Software bottlenecks, propose technical solutions in conjunction with the software developers, and identifying the resources necessary as a part of the SDLC process for Elegen
    • Laser focused on unblocking engineering teams, defining and streamlining cross-functional dependencies, and increasing efficiency and velocity of execution
    • Proven problem solver in a complex system design environment.

Collaboration & Communication:

    • Collaborate with in-house and offshore developers to define requirements for and build efficient APIs.
    • Collaborate with bioinformatics personnel to develop and implement efficient bioinformatic algorithms.
    • Proactively identify engineering problems and recommend solutions before they become blockers
    • Experience influencing without direct authority at senior levels internal and external to the Commercial Software team

Essential Qualifications and Experience:

  • Solid technical background with a bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science or a related engineering field with at least 8 years of industry experience (or PhD with a minimum of 4 years of experience) including 4+ years of program management experience.
  • Proven track record of leading cross functional software teams to success on very complex projects throughout all stages of the development lifecycle.
  • Ability to distill complex, manual scientific workflows into seamless scalable software solutions in a fast paced startup environment with rapidly shifting priorities to address market needs.
  • Experience with building Commercial Software in a life sciences company integrating LIMS/LES and bioinformatics software.
  • Proficiency in a wide variety of programming concepts, disciplines, tools and environments (RestAPI design using AWS, SQL, Python).
  • Experience with all phases of the software development life cycle, best practices and effective software development methodologies supported by strong communication skills, attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications and Experience:

  • Previous experience in integrating e-commerce or ERP systems with a LIMS system in a Life science company with a commercial product on the market.
  • Familiarity with full stack engineering and UI/UX design and frameworks.
  • Domain-specific experience in biotechnology, genomics or a related field.

Salary and Benefits:

The annual base salary compensation for this role, if based in California is: $180,000 - $220,000. Compensation may be different in other locations. Final compensation also includes bonus, equity and benefits. Specific offer packages are determined by multiple factors, including candidate skill, experience, expertise, and location.
