Eight Sleep is the first sleep fitness company. At Eight Sleep we design products at the forefront of sleep innovation. Our mission is to make people’s sleep count for more, using innovative technology, minimalistic design, and proven clinical science to personalize and improve each night for everybody—changing the way people sleep forever and for better.

Our temperature-regulated technology, the Pod, is an absolute game changer. It improves people's health and happiness by changing the way they sleep. The Pod was recognized two years in a row by TIME's “Best Inventions of the Year.” It is available for purchase in North America and internationally. Backed by leading Silicon Valley investors including Valor Equity Partners, Founders Fund, Khosla Ventures and Y Combinator, we’ve raised over $150 million (Series C) to date. We were recognized as one of Fast Company’s Most Innovative Companies in Consumer Electronics in 2019, 2022, and 2023.

We’re excited by the success of the Pod but still have a long way to go towards achieving our mission. That’s why we are looking for an R&D Thermal Engineer to help design our future generation products. This role will be instrumental in optimizing and innovating our thermal engine, so that our members have the best thermal experience possible. This role will interact closely with R&D and Hardware engineers, and will see their work productized to directly impact our members and our business.

This role is based out of our San Francisco office and will require frequent in-office work due to the nature of hardware prototyping.

How you’ll contribute

  • Design smart thermal systems for cooling and heating

  • Drive designs across the entire development lifecycle, including brainstorming, CAD, prototyping, testing, and ramp into production

  • Solve highly cross-functional problems by working with electrical, software, reliability, and manufacturing engineering teams

  • Perform analysis and testing to ensure designs meet product goals, including thermal, fluid, and structural analysis

What you need to succeed

  • 4+ years of industry experience with thermal system design and thermodynamics, especially with fluid based cooling technologies

  • Experience with taking a thermal product from concept to production, involving design for manufacturability and assembly (DFM/DFA)

  • Experience with noise, vibration and harshness (NVH)

  • Highly proficient with 3D modeling and simulation tools (e.g. Solidworks, NX, Creo)

  • System level thinker with cross-functional knowledge

  • BS Mechanical Engineering or equivalent, MS preferred

Why you’ll love Eight Sleep:

  • We’re a tight-knit, passionate team that’s working to impact people’s lives by improving the way they sleep

  • Leadership is committed to employees’ wellness and career development

  • You’ll get a better night's sleep every night; all full-time employees receive the Pod
