The Company

Cellino is building a precision platform that personalizes human cells for all. Stem cell-derived regenerative medicines are poised to cure some of the toughest diseases within this decade, including Parkinson’s, diabetes, and heart disease. Patient-specific cells provide the safest, most effective cures for these indications. Currently, large scale production of stem cell therapies is challenging due to extensive manual handling, high variability, and expensive manufacturing costs. Cellino’s vision is to enable healthier lives worldwide with personalized human cells.

The Role

Cellino is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Bioengineer to join our growing multifluent team. Bioengineers at Cellino take a problem-solving approach to biology, working at the intersection of biology, engineering, and data science to develop novel optical bioprocesses for Cellino’s innovative biomanufacturing platform. Reporting to the Head of Bioengineering, this position will focus on expanding our platform capabilities towards the generation of gene-edited, iPSC-derived cell types to enable Cellino’s new therapeutic development goals in the metabolic space.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of novel optical bioprocesses for clonal selection of gene-edited cells & adipocyte differentiation on Cellino’s biomanufacturing platform.
  • Collaborate with team members in establishing baseline gene-editing capabilities at Cellino
  • Establish and characterize iPSC differentiation protocols towards adipocytes as part of Cellino’s therapeutic development.
  • Conduct analysis on both self-generated and external datasets to draw insights, optimize process parameters, and improve bioprocess performance.
  • Act as a technical lead for bioprocess development at Cellino, defining development strategy & key milestones for projects in alignment with key stakeholders.

Requirements

  • PhD or post-graduate experience in biological/biomedical engineering, biophysics, computational biology, systems biology, or a related interdisciplinary field.
  • 5+ years of experience with human pluripotent stem cell (hPSC) culture and differentiation protocols.
  • Experience with contemporary gene editing techniques in mammalian cells, including relevant molecular biology/cloning techniques, PCR, CRISPR/TALENs, as well as viral & non-viral delivery methods.
  • Strong data analysis and coding skills (Python), with the ability to extract insights from complex biological datasets.
  • Strong experiment planning & communication skills, with ability to convey technical concepts effectively to team members with diverse technical backgrounds.
  • A keen interest in learning new skills in engineering, automation, and machine learning.

Nice-to-Have Skills and Background

  • Experience in the following technical skills preferred, but not required:
  • Fluorescence microscopy & image analysis
  • Computational methods for high-dimensional multi-omic data analysis
  • SQL databases
  • Familiarity or experience with the developmental biology of mesoderm-derived cell types like adipocytes.

Benefits

  • Competitive salaries
  • Stock options
  • 401(k)
  • Employer-paid medical, dental, vision, and life insurance
  • Generous paid time off and sick leave + 12 company holidays
  • Parental leave
