Cartography Biosciences is a therapeutics organization building immunology and computation tools to understand the critical differences between normal and cancerous cells, ultimately solving the challenge of finding the safest, most selective targets for a variety of immunotherapeutic approaches. To this end, Cartography is developing an internal pipeline of T-cell engagers and ADC programs against compelling single and target pairs discovered from its ATLAS and SUMMIT platforms. Our lead program, CB21, is a T-cell engager being advanced for colorectal cancer (CRC).
The Associate Director will be a key member of Cartography’s business development team and integral to the growth and success of the company. This individual will play a major role in the development and execution of our corporate strategy and will collaborate with a dynamic, highly-innovative team working to build the next generation of cancer therapies. A successful candidate will bring strong business acumen, strategic thinking, and relationship-building skills critical to interacting with both internal and external stakeholders. This role is expected to be onsite in South San Francisco 3-4 days per week.
Responsibilities:
Work closely with the Head of Business Development and cross-functional stakeholders (e.g., R&D, Finance, Legal, etc.) to support key strategic goals and execute strategic alliances and transactions.
Leads the research and analysis of partnering opportunities, including comps, business case development, and valuation models.
Drive commercial assessments, revenue forecasts, and planning for internal programs and external asset opportunities for priority diseases as identified in collaboration with clinical, scientific, and business leadership.
Manage partnering process including deal structuring/term sheet development, financial analysis of economic terms, coordinating diligence, supporting negotiation, and execution of definitive agreements.
Coordinates alliance management activities with new and existing partners to ensure contractual obligations and strategic objectives.
Monitors industry trends, competitive landscape, and emerging technologies in the biopharma space.
Assist in the development of presentations for senior management and the Board of Directors.
Attends partnering conferences, scientific congresses, and networking events on behalf of the company to build relationships with prospective partners.
Qualifications, Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:
6+ years of experience in the biopharma or related industry (i.e. investment banking, management consulting, venture capital), with at least 3 years of hands-on business development experience.
BA, BS, or equivalent required; MBA degree or other advanced degree in a related field (MD, PharmD, MS, or PhD) preferred.
Ideally, previous experience in biopharma partnering, including search and evaluation or transactions.
Demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally on multiple projects simultaneously with the ability to influence and drive stakeholders to decisions.
Expertise in quantitative and qualitative research and analysis, including financial modeling/valuation, with the ability to analyze complex business opportunities and their financial and strategic implications.
Experience with market assessments of new business opportunities and ability to generate insights and recommendations from clinical, commercial, and financial assessments.
High attention to detail and a focus on fact-based decision-making
Exceptional written and oral communication skills with the ability to build relationships and interact effectively with stakeholders at various levels.
