We are looking for an R&D Instrumentation Technician or Prototyping Engineer (based on seniority) to join our team.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • This position will be the first technician or prototype engineer (depending on experience) in our Mountain View, CA R+D center, and as such will have a chance to shape the flow of prototyping and testing in our design center.
  • Be a partner with and support the design engineers in bringing to life, testing, and troubleshooting Anduril’s different hardware products.
  • Fabricate and validate small quantities of electro-mechanical assemblies for prototype purposes.
  • Conduct rework and repair of PCBAs and cable harnesses/assemblies during engineering tests
  • Design and build prototype benches, test racks, and test instrumentation
  • Use measuring devices such as ohmmeters, voltmeters, clamp meters, and oscilloscopes, for engineering tests.
  • Conduct validation testing under the direction of engineers
  • Conduct product/acceptance tests on components and assemblies

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum 5 years experience as a technician or prototype engineer working in a prototype development lab environment.
  • Ability to read and understand complex PCBA schematics, cable assembly drawings, and test procedures, without the need to have detailed assembly instructions.
  • Experience with building and troubleshooting prototype electro-mechanical hardware, such as PCBAs, cables and wiring harnesses, test racks, and electro-mechanical assemblies (drones, robots, vehicles, or eq.).
  • Familiar and comfortable with standard electrical prototyping processes, such as PCBA rework (QFPs, BGAs, etc),
  • Extensive prototyping experience: Soldering, crimping, assembling cables and connectors, basic hand tools and simple tools (drill press, bandsaw, etc)
  • Familiar and comfortable with written test procedures, test report, documentation of test results
  • Basic electrical understanding and understanding of fundamental electrical concepts.
  • Familiarity with basic test equipment (DMM, Oscilloscopes, function generators)
  • U.S. Person status is required as this position needs to access export controlled data

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Deep understanding of PCBs, PCBAs, prototyping workflows and assembly techniques
  • Experience setting up and running tests (example: thermocouples, data loggers, etc.).
  • Associate level degree in electronics/electrical assembly or equivalent
  • Able to hand solder per IPC, J-STD and/or NASA-STD 8739.4
  • Wire harness experience in accordance with NASA-STD-8739.3 and 8739.4 and/or IPC-A-620 standards.
  • Willing to work overtime, and weekends as needed.
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 25 lbs. unassisted.
