Position Overview: We are seeking a talented and innovative Principal Engineer with deep expertise in data engineering, back end system architecture & full stack software development. Experience in ML/AI is a plus, but not required. Healthcare experience is a requirement.

You have an avid interest in digital health technologies and tools that drive innovation and impact, and you are motivated to understand the needs and pain points of our clinical staff and of the patients we serve. As a key member of our team, you will play a pivotal role in designing and implementing solutions that drive our mission forward and improve the lives of individuals who are living with Severe Mental Illness (SMI). You want to be on the ground floor of helping build a fast-paced and mission-driven healthcare organization.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable data pipelines and infrastructure for integrating diverse healthcare data sources, with a focus on EHR systems
  • Implement secure and compliant data exchange mechanisms between EHRs and external systems, ensuring data integrity and confidentiality.
  • Develop and optimize data models and databases (SQL, NoSQL) for high performance and scalability.
  • Partner with clinical and operational leadership to define and evolve long and short term technology roadmaps that scale with Amae and enable Amae’s growth and clinical outcome goals
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand business requirements and translate them into clear technical specifications to inform build/buy/outsource decisions
  • Design, develop, and deploy scalable and robust full-stack solutions for our technology platform that deliver high usability, operational efficiency, and strong ROI
  • Ensure best practices in data governance, data quality, and data security are adhered to, especially in compliance with HIPAA and other relevant healthcare regulations.
  • Make informed strategic tradeoffs between new capabilities, user experience improvements, technical foundation enhancements, and tech-debt management to ensure long term impact and sustainability of technical operations
  • Lead the integration of Machine Learning and AI capabilities into our platform to enhance user experience and optimize care delivery

Competencies:

  • Passion for solving problems in the healthcare domain with technical experience previously working in the healthcare industry
  • 4+ years experience in data engineering and back end system architecture.
  • 3+ years of experience in full stack software engineering: building scalable, cloud-deployed solutions while collaborating with clinical, operations and product partners
  • Innovative thinker who knows how to iterate and evolve a distributed software solution while carefully balancing the needs of privacy, security, and reliability against a changing healthcare landscape
  • Expert understanding of modern tech-stack and demonstrated ability to adapt and thrive in diverse technical environments; proficiency in a variety of tech stacks and frameworks
  • Expert in pyspark. Proven expertise in backend technologies, preferably Python. Expert in SQL.
  • Familiarity in FHIR, HL7 & SMART.
  • Demonstrated experience integrating AI/Machine Learning into tech stack
  • Familiarity with Electronic Health Records and data privacy laws (HIPAA/HITECH, 42 CFR Part 2)
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field or an equivalent amount of work experience
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and adapt to evolving priorities and challenges.
