What You Will Contribute To Altos
The P. Muñoz-Cánoves Laboratory is excited to be recruiting experienced cellular and molecular biologists or biochemists who are passionate about using their wet lab expertise to unravel the biology of aging in the context of tissue rejuvenation programming and tissue communication to help translate these findings into impactful new treatments. Specifically, someone familiar with skeletal muscle aging and sarcopenia will be greatly valued.
The successful candidate will work alongside a multidisciplinary team of scientists to integrate knowledge across a wide range of experiments and investigate tissue aging, tissue communication, and reprogramming in vivo.
Responsibilities
- Engage in ground-breaking and innovative science.
- Develop project-specific experimental strategies, techniques, and procedures.
- Carry out research projects in collaboration with the principal investigator and senior scientists.
- Contribute to writing and dissemination of research results.
- Support and manage internal/external collaborations in multidisciplinary projects.
- Assist with training wet lab and core facility members including technicians.
- Responsible for helping PI train lab members, including scientists and technicians.
- Contribute to writing and dissemination of research results.
Who You Are
We seek different scientific profiles to join the group. Minimum requirements for the Scientist role include:
- PhD in life sciences.
- Hands-on experience in skeletal muscle studies in vivo, including hypertrophy and atrophy models
- Hands-on experience in skeletal muscle tissue analysis, including neuro-muscular junction
- Excellent computer and data mining skills, including advanced proficiency with Google apps, Excel, and vector graphic applications to produce documents and manage projects.
- Excellent professional writing skills and the ability to attune through writing and presentations to various audiences, including senior executives through entry-level employees.
- Problem-solving skills sufficient to identify issues, conduct research, and develop innovative solutions.
- Ability to maintain cooperative working relationships with a broad range of people, including staff colleagues, lab members, faculty, outside agencies and collaborators, and the community.
- Demonstrated high productivity and ability to complete work on time.
- Ability to organize work and set priorities.
- Ability to focus on details to produce accurate, quality work driven by deadlines.
- Ability to work in a dynamic environment and with others in a team.
- Strengths in dealing with ambiguity.
Preferred Qualifications
Candidates with strong training in the following fields are preferred:
- Hands-on experience in skeletal muscle, aging, and sarcopenia in vivo
- Hands-on experience in hypertrophy and atrophy models
- Hands-on experience in neuro-muscular junction
- Molecular biology techniques, including recombinant viral vectors.
- Prior experience with animal handling, including disease models, is a plus.
- Comprehensive and solid experience in general molecular biology and cell culture techniques
- Experience in cell/tissue reprogramming
- Single-cell/nuclei analysis of animal tissues
- Stem cell biology and prior experience with animal models are a plus
The salary range for San Diego, CA
- Scientist I $116,450 - $157,550
- Scientist II $137,000- $184,800
