What You Will Contribute To Altos
An exciting opportunity is available for a Sr. Scientist to join the In Vivo Pharmacology & Biomarker Discovery team of the Institute of Medicine (IOM) at Altos Labs. We are seeking a highly skilled, self-motivated and talented scientist to lead and execute in vivo preclinical research and biomarker discovery activities supporting portfolio progression. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with leading researchers from the Institutes of Science (IOS), our technology hubs, and members of the Institute of Medicine (IoM) to think strategically, lead and execute preclinical research to generate decisional data packages in support of drug-discovery stage projects.
The ideal candidate will bring extensive knowledge of a wide variety of in vivo and ex vivo research methodologies and analyses and a track record of successful scientific impact in the biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry with demonstrated experience in leading and managing scientific projects from conceptualization through execution and analysis. This includes setting project goals, designing and executing on experimental strategies, managing timelines, thinking creatively of opportunities to leverage cutting-edge technologies, and coordinating with cross-functional teams to achieve milestones and deliverables.
Responsibilities:
- Provide scientific leadership and expertise in the field of aging/rejuvenation biology and drive data analysis and interpretation to guide decision-making processes.
- Build preclinical strategies and experimental/analytical plans for portfolio projects, leveraging internal expertise as needed.
- Lead ex vivo biological analysis (e.g., biomarker discovery) in collaboration with Altos Hubs and cross-functional teams.
- Execute ex vivo experiments on diverse tissues collected from in vivo studies, perform analyses, and report results.
- Act as the scientific lead for in vivo studies and ex vivo analyses conducted at CROs.
- Evaluate and implement new technologies and platforms to enhance the efficiency and quality of ex vivo studies.
- Maintain detailed documentation of all studies in electronic lab notebook to ensure data integrity and traceability.
- Follow best practices for in vivo research methodologies, including animal model selection, dosing strategies, sample collection and data collection techniques.
- Collaborate effectively with in vivo operation teams from the IoM to enable execution of high quality in vivo studies.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including IoS, in vitro Pharmacology, Science Integration, Innovation and Insights, Drug Metabolism and Pharmacokinetics, etc. to support the development and progression of therapeutic programs.

Who You Are
Minimum Qualifications
- Ph.D. in Biology, Pharmacology, or a related field plus a minimum of 6 years of relevant postgraduate experience, with at least 3+ years of relevant industry experience leading and executing preclinical research for drug discovery and biomarker discovery.
- Ability to think independently and creatively to design experimental strategies and analysis plans and generate robust, reproducible, and generalizable results in a timely manner.
- 3Rs-centered, welfare-oriented approach to animal-based research.
- Strong technical expertise and hands-on experience leveraging cutting-edge technologies (e.g. spatial transcriptomics, multi-omics, in situ imaging, etc.) to generate decisional data packages.
- Outstanding communication skills, essential for effective collaboration with internal and external collaborators.
- Exceptional organizational and attention to detail skills, with the capacity to work autonomously as well as in a team setting.
- Ability to troubleshoot and effectively solve problems, demonstrating resourcefulness and a high level of analytical thinking.
- Proficient in documenting experimental design, analysis, and interpretation of data in an ELN.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working across diverse therapeutic modalities, including small molecules, biotherapeutics, nucleic acid therapeutics, and gene therapy is highly desirable.
- Strong knowledge in several biological hallmarks of age-related diseases/ deficits; including inflammation, DNA repair, epigenetic, protein homeostasis, cell health, metabolism, etc.
The salary range for Redwood City, CA:
- Senior Scientist I: $166,000 - $228,000
- Senior Scientist II: $190,000 - $268,000
